If you are new to sewing or just need a refresher, join library staff
for several upcoming programs at the Corinth Library and the Iuka Library.

On Wednesday, November 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., the Corinth Library will host an Introductory Sewing class.  Staff will demonstrate how to thread a machine, sew both a straight and a zigzag stitch, and demonstrate how to make an applique turkey that can later be made into a stuffed shelf craft, a placemat, a pillow, or a wall hanging.  Packets of supplies will be provided to each participate so that they can make the turkey applique on their own.

On Monday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Iuka Library,  Emily Vestal, the 4-H Extension Agent for Tishomingo County, will give a Sewing Demonstration by.  Emily will demonstrate such basics as how to thread a machine and how to sew a straight stitch.

On Wednesday, December 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 12: 00 p.m., staff at the Corinth Library will offer another class that will focus on making holiday ornaments and stockings.

Throughout November and December, sewing machines will be available at both locations for individual use for periods of up to 1.5-hour sessions. During this time, patrons can either make their craft from one of the classes or use the machine for their own personal mending needs.

“We would like to thank the Mississippi Library Commission for loaning us the sewing machines to provide these programs,” says Dee Hare, NERL Director.  “We hope that these programs will be the start of several new making and crafting opportunities at our branches.”

To sign up for the class, individual sewing sessions, or for more information, call the Corinth Library at 662-287-2441 or the Iuka Library at 662-423-6300.
