CHILDREN’S STORY HOUR
Several branches of the Northeast Regional Library offer weekly pre-school story hours. Stories, songs, games, and crafts are offered for children aged three to five. Special arrangements may be made with an individual branch to bring pre-school, kindergarten, or school-aged children for a class visit. The schedule of story hours is listed on our homepage.
SUMMER LIBRARY READING PROGRAM
Each summer, the Northeast Regional Library sponsors a Summer Library Program to encourage children to continue to read while they are out of school for the summer. The program has a theme which celebrates reading and which ties in with summertime activities that interest children. Past themes have been “Super Sports Summer”, “Thrills and Chills”, “Get a Clue @ Your Library”, and “Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales”. The Mississippi Library Commission coordinates the reading program in Mississippi and distributes free training and manuals for implementing the theme, bookmarks, reading logs and certificates, and other promotional materials which the child may keep after completing the program. The multi-state Summer Library Program is conceived and implemented by the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUPS
The Iuka Library hosts a monthly book discussion group meeting that is open to anyone who would like to participate. The group members select a year’s worth of books for its reading list, and each month a different book is highlighted. “Iuka Discusses Books” meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 12:00 noon. A dessert is served, usually something that ties in with the theme of the book being discussed that month.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY PROGRAMS
Friends of the Library support an individual library by holding book sales, hosting programs, and helping to publicize activities being held at the library.
The Friends of the Iuka Library hosts “Lunch Breaks” for anyone who wishes to attend. Lunch Breaks provide lunch and a one hour program which varies from month to month. Past programs have included authors, antiques dealers, florists, and a variety of topics of interest.
The Friends of the Iuka Library holds a Lunch Break every other month, from September through May, at 12 noon. The cost is $2 and includes lunch and beverage.

FREE DRIVER’S EDUCATION PROGRAM
Northeast Regional Library announces a partnership with Driving-Tests.org, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, to offer free Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) practice tests to library patrons. The new service includes free tests specifically based on the state’s DMV materials. It is the only site of its kind to include accessibility tools that let users hear selections read aloud, make them into MP3s, translate pages into other languages, magnify text, and mask portions of the screen for greater visibility on the practice tests.
