National Library Week 2018

National Library Week 2018

National Library Week 2018Join us this year during National Library Week 2018 from April 9 -14 as we celebrate how “Libraries Lead” at our NERL public library branches.  National Library Week is a yearly event designed to highlight the many services and contributions of our nation’s public, school, academic and special libraries and to promote library use by their communities.  It’s also a great time to celebrate the joy of reading!  First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is typically held during the second week of April.

Special National Library Week programs from the Northeast Regional Library system include programs at the Baldwyn library that will honor both their current and future leaders of the community, a special dinosaur story time at the George E. Allen library in Booneville and programs on woodworking, homemade bread, soaps and bath products at the Burnsville branch.

In Corinth, financial advisor Greg Cooley will present a program on “How New Tax Law Affects Individuals and Businesses” and several prominent members of the community will talk throughout the week about what they like to read.  At Iuka, a hands-on Virtual Reality demonstration will occur on Saturday.  All throughout the week, the Ripley Library will be provide one-on-one and small groups help with E-mail and Internet Basics, Introduction to Facebook, Microsoft Word Help and assistance with downloading digital media.  And remember, as always, all library programs are free and open to the public.

Many NERL branches will be demonstrating their new ABC Mouse and Universal Class databases during this week.  Several library branches will sponsor Open Houses with refreshments in a variety of forms and many will be giving away door prizes throughout the week.  In addition, many of the Friends of the Library groups associated with each branch will be sponsoring special book sales during this week.
